Fareshare
B.A.C.E. has a long-established system of collecting food donations for their Emergency Food Pantry, from its members, (known as In-Gathering Sunday,) and supplying those in need from the community who, for various reasons, find themselves unable to feed their families; to the homeless, refugees and claimants whose benefits have been stopped or are awaiting a decision on their application.
Even though the members of the church and people in the community contributed generously to the Pantry, we found that our supplies would rapidly decrease with the increase in demand from the community for help.
The one thing we did not want to do was turn anyone away empty handed and, for several months, continued to depend on those who would dig deep to replenish the store.
We were advised to get in contact with Fareshare who responded immediately and came out to inspect the premises ensuring that we were in line with food hygiene requirements and health and safety procedures.
Our collections from Tesco stores quickly went from twice a week to almost every night and with the food collected, we have been able to continuously distribute from the church throughout the week.
With the increase in collections we have been able to cook and feed the homeless every Sunday and plan to do so on a long-term basis.
People are free to pick up supplies, stay and have a hot meal, dessert, and a soft drink and have fellowship with the members of the church.
With an increase in collections and people we are assisting we are always looking for volunteers to either help with the collections, distribution from the hall or serving the hot meals.
